How to help:

  • Donate money by clicking on the button in the sidebar.
  • Buy books from the wishlist.
  • Send books you have to the address at the end of this post.
  • Pay for a supscription to a magazine for the university here: (Note to self: Add link later).
  • Call for different universities to hold drives in their schools at the end of the year to collect books and send them here.
  • Suggest something?

Details:

It's a project to collect books for the out-of-date libraries in Mosul university in Iraq.

I'm planning to start by collecting books in enviromental engineering , since that's mom's majority. She asked the head of the department and he gave her the department e-mail, and agreed on the project.

If anyone has books in reach, on the environmental engineering field, it would be great if you could mail them to the department. I am also planning to collect donations to buy books of choice by the head of the department and mom, and to subscribe to magazines depending on the amount of the money I collect.

If anyone would like to participate in anyway, or has suggestions, please e-mail me.

I also wrote to Nancy, I remembered her saying that she was going to do such project and she said that you might be able to help in caling for different universities to hold drives in their schools at the end of the year to collect books and send them here. Can anyone do that?

It is my #1 step to change.. Hope it goes well. I have already tried the mailing service in Iraq, and it works, but since we're going to subscribe through the Internet, I have set a paypal account which you can donate to by clicking on the button on the sidebar.

You can also buy books from the wishlist I created with mom, sending them to yourself then to us since mailing to Iraq is not an option in Amazon, unless you want to try sending them from a website other than Amazon.

The address you should use for sending the books is:

The head of the civil engineering department
[E-mail me to get names]
University of Mosul
College of Engineering
Civil engineering department
Mosul - Iraq

I will get mom to spend some more time to choose more books and magazine subscriptions maybe..

Please feel free to spread news about the project, or contact whomever you can. If there's anything else that needs to be explained, tell me, and I'll try to put more details about that.

It's sad that the head of the civil engineering department must hide their name. Civil engineering is what gives us roads, water systems, sewage systems- the basics of safe and secure life in the modern world.
Best of luck with your library project- it is a nobel cause.
I will try to find some friends at the Universities here- to see if they can donate some texts.
The US Environmental Protection Agency has some very valuable information online on it's web site at http://www.epa.gov/waterscience/ including formal test methods for water analysis.
I sent you $20 thru paypal. I have a friend that graduated in chemical engineering and is working in that field. I will check with her to see if she has any of the books you are in need for.

Good job again on the TimesSelect piece.

May Allah reward you for your noble efforts.

I haven't forgotten about you Najma! I have just been very busy with some unexpected tasks I had to do to help another family member. I will email you a list of possible books soon and your mom can choose the ones she would like. Good luck with the rest of the project and look for an email from me soon!
Najma,

Ya Ukhti il 3azeezah!

What a brilliant idea. Are there any similar projects to equip children's libraries with reading material in English and Arabic?

My father left some 700 books at my uncle's house in Mosul and I think they can be put to good use.

I will put a link of your posting on my blog sidebar.

Fe aman Allah.
These comments have been invaluable to me as is this whole site. I thank you for your comment.

Since my son has worked in Mosul, I'm going to suggest this project to members of my church. Good for you!
