What's happening at the University?

Friday, November 24, 2006
University started on Sunday for the first graders, I was very nervous when mom left me at my college. I didn't find anyone I knew in the building and it felt like everyone was looking at me, very uncomfortable!

Then I found a familiar face, a girl who I haven't talked to before except on the phone once, when she called and asked about communication engineering, knowing that I applied to it, and told me that she was thinking of repeating the sixth grade on hope that she'll get a higher average of marks then, and getting accepted at some higher college (Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry). She's met another firstgrader and was talking with her. I joined them. They were both very nice but the first, S, was more to my liking.

We finished lessons at 2:30 PM, we took all the lessons since we were behind in lessons even before starting, since university started really late this year.

A student from the 4th grade played a practical joke on our class, pretending to be a prof, and dismissing 2 students while getting us all nervous with his attitude before admitting it.

The next day I met another girl, Z, who along with S, is now my friend.

Time at the uni goes really really fast.. I barely have time to talk with the girls. We have a rest of 10 minutes for every hour, but it's not enough.

I'm loving studying at the uni. I like all the subjects.. I have no difficulty in studying in English unlike most of the students who have to translate the pages before studying!
I like the teachers, all but one, but my first impressions have proved very wrong in the past!

We received our textbooks, each two students share the books. Most of the students do not use the books (Until they have to, at Higher studies) and depend on what the teachers give us, but I love books. A charity institution donated books for the university students (One for each two too, and one title for each grade), the books are good, copies like all our books, yet well-covered.

I hope university will always be fun for me.. I'll pray for that.

Let it be

Monday, November 13, 2006
I heard this song and became addicted.. I loved it.

Sang by the Iraqi singer: Kadhem AlSaher and the American singer: Paula Cole.. Download here.

If there was one breath
to bring us together
Please send it down from above
Oh God unite the thoughts
of thy servants
Unchain their hearts by thy love

Let it be

Through love and compassion
will hatred die away
Let freedom be the voice of
a new day
Asalam-u-Alaikum
May peace be in the heart of
every woman, every man
In us all

When all of the children of man
are together
Under the rays of one sun
The beauty and glory of
human perfection
Will be revealed to everyone

Let it be

Through love and compassion
will hatred die away
Let freedom be the voice
of a new day
Asalam-u-Alaikum
May peace be in the heart
of every woman, every man
In us all

When will the world stop crying?
(When will the world stop crying?)
When will the world stop lying?
When will the world stop dying?

Through love and compassion
will hatred die away
Let freedom be the voice
of a new day
Asalam-u-Alaikum
May peace be in the heart
of every woman, every man
In Us All

Enjoy!

Books For The University project update

Saturday, November 11, 2006
A professor in the College of Education, Arkansas state university, Dan Cline wrote his colleagues and raised books for the project. I received a total of 27 books in different fields (From Art to psychology to Engineering) few days ago..

This is a photo of the books (click to enlarge):

This has been a very good step in the project, though not in Environmental engineering. Any book that can be used and benefited from are more than appreciated by both the students and teachers who read them.

A big thank-you to Dan, who has been, and still is a big help in the project, and a good friend..

The package arrived after a month of its shipment, in two very heavy boxes, sealed and unopened at the post office like the previous packages I've received. This proved that mail in Iraq is really working and isn't being stolen at the post office.

I am awaiting a package on Sunday, not sure what it is.. I only know it's from New jersey.

Let's please RESUME

Monday, November 06, 2006
Applying for departments in my college started on Wednesday, I went and applied on Thursday. Most people however only knew afterwards and decided to go apply on Sunday (Since Friday and Saturday are weekends)..

Saddam's trial was decided to be on Sunday. On Saturday, it was announced on TV that the news about a cufew on Sunday was just a rumor.. minutes later, they announced the curfew themselves, getting all the people confused.

Today is Monday and the curfew hasn't ended, no news about when it will. Life has just stopped!

HNK has exams all week and by the time she finished studying one, she knows the days after is a curfew and starts studying for the next one.. It's a mess.

How many times have I described the situation in Iraq lately as a mess? That's because it simple is, honestly.

What are my reactions on the trial? NONE.. I didn't even watch it. I didn't want to. It won't change a thing, not to the better at least.

What's Saddam to me? Once a president who I hated.. Now a former president who just "made" things work!!

I lost my Internet connection for two days this week, felt like a nightmare at first.. then I went back to watching TV which was kind of fun.

I want to blog, but I do not feel like it.. I'm forcing myself, and will keep doing so until either things go the right way and I go back to loving to blog, or go the wrong way where I'll start hating to describe it to people not living it.
