What the reason was, I do not know.. but the American forces did a horrible thing when they threw missiles from their plane on Al-Majmo3a street (the most active street in Mosul just in front of the university, full of computer, mobile, clothes and other shops)..

It´s incredible how the north americans easily explain his acts (without any self-critic) as "against terrorists", or "against insurgents".

I may be able to help put more light on the incident. Much of the damage shown by your pictures was done when the IED planted under the raodside curb went off, barely missing the tank that had just passed and the humvee that was following. The unit was there responding to tips from residents that radicals had been in the area threatening shop owners who were selling dvds and music cds and harrassing customers. After the initial explosion, at least 8 attakcers wearing black began firing on the vehicles with small arms fire and nearly two dozen RPG rounds. The troops fired an anti-tank round into one of the buildings from which the rpgs seem to be coming from in the greatest numbers, and two attack helicopters ended the attack with rockets fired into another building. One attacker was confirmed killed. I got this info directly from a soldier who came under fire in this incident.
I am so sorry! That was an awful thing!
I'm sorry this happened Najma, and so close to your university makes me worry for the safety of you and the other students. I hope this will not happen again!

or a summary:
However, a recent article on the The Nation Magazine totally erases the perceptions that the Americans have. The magazine interviewed 50 combat veterans of the Iraq war in a bid to examine how far has the four-year invasion gone with helping the war-torn country.

Shockingly, most of the interviewed veterans hold brutal memories of the war with physical and emotional scars. The report is not talking about known crimes committed by U.S. troops, such as the massacre in Haditha in 2005, when 24 unarmed Iraqi civilians were murdered by 12 marines. It’s mainly covering human rights abuse cases that the public doesn’t know anything about.

This bombing has nothing to do with the usa propaganda sprouted by anonymous above.....Usa is going crazy with bombs thrown from the air at the moment (just check their tallys of bombing runs).
This is because they are bad losers and know they are leaving defeated soon!
get out of Iraq usa/isreal.
Assuming that the Americans leave, what happens then? As an American woman who believes that violence doesn't solve anything, I'm interested in knowing how I could support my Iraqi sisters in healing their hearts and their countries.

As a U.S. Army doctor having just spent 6 months in Mosul I can tell you with first hand knowledge that the U.S. Army does NOT go in and bomb civilian places like you have described on your blog without a reason. There are people(non-U.S.) in Mosul like the rest of the country who are setting ambushes for both Iraqi and American soldiers and who are killing innocent Iraqi men, women and children. I know because I treated(without difference to race or country of origin)countless human beings who were being cought up in the violence. You sound intelligent. Instead of making ignorant assumptions and placing them on your blog, why dont you look a little deeper for the facts. Do you even want to hear the truth? The far, far majority of people I treated at our U.S. hospital were Iraqi citizens being injured or killed by other Iraqi citizens or Muslums from neighboring countries. If the U.S. is so barbaric, why are we spending millions of dollars on health care for Iraqi men, women and children?
Hi Najma,
I am an American University student who has discovered your blog and am very fortunate for that reason. For too long my only insights into Iraq has been through the media, and unfortunately, my corrupt government. It is sickening to see so many Americans desensitized to the terror America has caused in your country. I am very sorry for what has happened and what will continue to happen. I assure you, however, that there are many of us who want an end to the American presence and will not rest until Iraq is returned to a better condition. I hope you continue your blog and please find hope even when it seems things are not improving. Everyday, when I read about the many Iraqis who have died, I feel so terrible for what my country has done. Please hang on because there will be change soon and I will not stop pressuring my representatives until this war ends.
Anonymous on 7/12/07 at 5:10 and Anonymous on 8/22/07 at 5:35,

Thank you for your explanations. It helps those of us who really want to, to understand the events that happen in Iraq more clearly.

Anonymous on 7/12/07,

I hope that your friend was not injured in the ambush. Please thank him for his service for me.

Anonymous on 8/22/07,

Thank you for your service. It is very much appreciated.

To All Iraqis,

I hope there comes a day when you can walk down your streets and go about your business without the worry of being blown up by IED's planted by people who care nothing for those who may be caught in the blast or the resulting firefights.
Dear Najma, regardless of what some say, it has come down to this. 74% of Americans now want and end to this savagery we are participating in. That is more than ever in the history of the USA. I am sorry for your situation and moreover I am ashamed for the dispicable acts that we, and the insurgents have inflicted on you and your country.
I understand the fear, the confusion, but to stand here and say things that only inflame an already out of control situation is just evil.
War is and will always be no solution to anything. I want peace for you and the rest of the world. How do we arrive at peace? I have no clue.
In my own country of America it has become almost like a facist state, people are afraid to speak out. For fear of reprisals from the weak minded war loving Neo Cons that are currently in power. We have lost control of our own destinies, and are being prodded along by the so called Conservatives and the Religious right wing fanatics.
They are the minority now but still hold power from the executive branch of our corrupt Government.
Soon, though not soon enough the American people will stand up and put an end to this hypocrosy, and bring our troops home and end this stupid onslaught upon your country.
Until then all we can do is hope for peace, and I want you personally to know that 74% of America is with you.

asalaamualikum, sister. I've just scanned thru some of ur blogs. I love the fact that u r giving ur firsthand xperience in the violence, but at the same time reminding everyone that u r just a young woman with troubles of her own- starting school dealing with bad professors.
hamduallha u have ur family. I think it is so amazing that even in such terrible times, we humans still bond together a find a reason to CELEBRATE LIFE! weather it b with a wedding, or simply breaking fast with ur family. Keep studying, and obviously with ur writing skills and ur way to emotionally connect with the public i don't think its too far fetched to see a writing career!

I am also so sorry about these bouts of depression u have to keep fighting off. Just keep ur faith (and believe me- i know about that other "lil me" inside my head during prayer- especially since i don't speak Arabic!!)Stay strong and God willing ur family will have many more happy events to celebrate.
I don't even know where to start. I spent a full year in Mosul serving the US Army. For those Americans like Grandma Chaz, leaving extremely uneducated comments (who have never "been there done that") please refrain from telling us what is happening in Iraq.
I have to agree with the Army doc that said we do NOT target innocent Iraqis in any bombing raids. We are not out to hurt any of the innocent Iraqis. We try to help the Iraqis willing to accept our help.
I lost 2 very generous friends who were out to help restore the control that the Iraqi people wanted so very bad to have back. I guess according to half the people writing in this blog forgot about those trying to train Iraq Police officers...the ones who befriended Iraqis, who ate with the Iraqis, who gave their lives for the Iraqis...protecting them.
I specifically remember sitting in the Army ICU visiting one of my friends, who had his guts blown out of him by an Iraqi insurgent...by his side...to Iraqis being treated by those who supposedly hate the Aribic Nation. Those Iraqis were hurt by their own people.
And PLEASE do not show us photos of your city blown to pieces. DO SOMETHING TO RESTORE IT! When our base was attacked...we didn't take photos and post them on a blog of what your people did to us....we picked up the pieces and restored our base to be our "home away from home".
For people who are so ungreatful...take a look at the numbers of lives we are actually trying to save and let you and your children live long healthy lives. According to records Suddam, Uda, Qusa and many other Baath members killed thousands more out of straight-up hatred.
Please get your facts straight before hating a nation that has been set on helping others before their own.
